Beaches, surfing and sunbathing is a favourite pastime on the Far South Coast, where letting you your hair down is the name of the game. but there’s one place where you can really let your hair down.
If swimming and sunbathing in the nude is your preference, Armands Beach was declared legally clothes optional by Bega Valley Shire Council in 1993.
To get to Armands Beach, drive south from Bermagui 9.5 kilometres along the Tathra- Bermagui Road to Barragga Bay and turn left into Kullaroo Road. Proceed along the sealed road to the Armands Beach sign, where there’s a walking track to the beach. From Tathra, you can simply drive north 38 kilometres along the Tathra-Bermagui Road to reach the same Kullaroo Road turn.
Armands Beach retains its name from Armand Lemmeric, a farm owner who lived behind Armands Bay and regularly swam nude at the beach. In the 1930s the beach was famous for its nude cricket matches.
Armands Beach is not patrolled and no toilets or facilities exist. You are advised to plan your trip and bring water and supplies, it’s also important to take away everything you bring to keep it pristine. Nudity is limited to the extent of the sands of the beach.
